Mechanical Intermediate Position

BK Consulting Inc. is a mid-sized Engineering company specializing in residential and commercial design. We are based in Newmarket, Ontario, and have been providing Engineering services across Canada to area developers, contractors, government agencies, commercial tenants and architects for more than 20 years. We provide full range Mechanical and Electrical engineering services for residential, commercial, industrial and institutional projects in both the public and private sectors.

An intermediate Mechanical Designer is required, who is flexible in their continued learning / development. This position is a challenge, and we are looking for that one candidate who can rise to the occasion. Scope of work:

Projects to be involved with would include; Building Services, Mechanical Design (Plumbing, HVAC), Electrical / Emergency (building services), Life Safety, and regulatory investigation. The type of work is highly varied, and non-repetitive.

Areas of practice include, Residential, Commercial and Industrial Buildings; Ontario Building Code and Fire Code Compliance. Clients vary from large multi-national corporations, to one owner private buildings / projects.


Role:

Design of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, drainage and fire protection designs, specifications and drawings for projects of various size, complexity and type, with minimal supervision.


Primary Responsibilities:
  • Create working drawings with AutoCAD with specifications, for a permit application/ tender/ construction.
  • Interface with other disciplines involved in the project design team (i.e. Architects, Structural Consultants, Electrical Consultants, etc.) to co-ordinate mechanical requirements.
  • Attend client design and coordination meetings.
  • Provide field reporting for ongoing construction works, and report on findings relative to the construction plans.
  • Maintain and grow current business and client relationships
  • Prepare mechanical equipment schedules
  • Size and select equipment including fans, pumps, boilers, chillers, heat exchangers, coils, expansion tanks, etc.
  • Prepare equipment selections using Integral selection procedures
  • Comply with company Design Standards and CAD Standards
  • Develop mechanical system schematics and riser diagrams
  • Engineer systems in accordance with OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE and/or other relevant Codes and Standards
  • Liaise with local utilities, municipalities and authorities as required
  • Review and comment on shop drawing submittals

Required Skills:
  • 4 or more years of experience in designing mechanical systems within the consulting engineering industry.
  • Well versed in building design works using AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of OBC, ASHRAE and other relevant Codes and Standards
  • Experience with REVIT considered an asset
  • Functional in all MS Office suite software.
  • Past experience in reading and understanding codes / regulations applicable to a project.
  • Ability to investigate project information and gather data that is absent / unclear, as related to a project deliverable.
  • Must be able to work on numerous projects within a work week
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of building services is an asset

Transportation:
  • You are responsible for your transportation to work each day.
  • Parking is available at the office.
